My Nervous Mind: Dealing with Anxiety

Daily writing prompt
What makes you nervous?

What makes me nervous and gives anxiety… well a lot of things.. there are the usual… I worry about my company’s future, having to fire people, about my family’s health, about my own health…. and then there those that are my usuals…. worrying about ending up a failure in life, socialising, negative comments, going up on stage, making presentations and pitches, world ending, pandemics… and so on.

Basically there are very few things that don’t cause me nervousness. All boiling down to an uncertain not so perfect future. One that I am not in control of or not close to what I had in mind.

Over the years I have come to see that feeling nervous is good as long as you dont let it overwhelm you and become anxiety. It keeps you at it, makes you work hard, not take things for granted and it does prepare you for the worst. In most difficult situations I have ended up being the rock of my family, only to break up in pieces on a daily basis…Why?

In difficult situations, my brain is focused in the present not thinking about my past failures or an uncertain future. All its thinking of is what do I do to solve this issue. There in was my first way to combat anxiety. It never gets old… FOCUS ON THE PRESENT!

today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.”

When I used to watch cricket matches in my child hood I used to have sleepless nights about India winning matches, wearing same things and making sure everything is in the same place. Even blamed myself when India lost matches. But ever since I have moved on from being that anxious, India started performing far better. Like they didn’t need me to win anymore… My second Mantra… LET IT GO!

Letting go doesn’t mean giving up. It’s about giving your best, without it consuming you. It takes some time, but very peaceful once you reach that point.

What do you do when you feel nervous.

Oh wow… you held anxiety for your cricket team? Thank you for sharing that. What an amazing article. Letting go is what I am getting out of it and it is such a theme in my life at the moment. Letting go can sometimes feel so lonely. as we needed to hold onto something to feel we are connected to something. letting go is hard. but what a great article. Thank you for sharing.

I often find myself feeling nervous about the economy, especially with the potential for another war, rising inflation, and other uncertainties. It’s a bit daunting to think about the global impacts and how they might affect daily life and financial stability.
